Spirit Rescue is an age-old practice involving human intervention in locating and aiding earthbound Spirits. These Spirits are deceased humans’ Souls either stuck in various earthly locations or wandering the Earth Plane unable to move on to the Spirit Realm.
The intention of Spirit Rescue is to move earthbound Spirits on to the unconditional love and light of the Spirit Realm. And what could be more noble than guiding lost Souls to their spiritual home? For there they will be welcomed back by both their Spirit Guide and loved ones who went before them.
Although not to the extent of print and cinema hype, encounters with earthbound Spirits span the millennia. For example, I grew up in a house where the previous owner’s elderly mother passed and remained in that house rather than move on to the Spirit Realm.
Consequently, many family members had personal experiences with this benign Spirit for as long as we owned the house. I can only assume she is still there with the current owners. Alas, if I only knew then how to help her move on.
How Mediums Feel About Earthbound Spirits
Nonetheless, many highly revered professional Mediums deny there are earthbound Spirits needing rescue. However, these Mediums do believe that energies become imprinted in locations where significant events have occurred. But they assert that “when people die their Souls go immediately to the Spirit Realm, period.”
Wait, what? Since Mediums communicate with Spirits of the deceased, wouldn’t they know earthbound Spirits exist? Well, not necessarily.
For I theorize non-believer Mediums don’t believe simply because they don’t encounter earthbound Spirits in their work. For Mediums are the go-between in communication between Spirits residing in the Spirit Realm and their loved ones residing in the Earth Realm. Consequently, Mediums don’t, as a rule, deal with the borderland between the Earth and Spirit Realms. Therefore, they wouldn’t encounter the Spirits stuck between the two realms.
However, some other Mediums do believe in earthbound Spirits because they have personal experience with them. And once encountering an earthbound Spirit, these Mediums will work earnestly to move them into the light. But. although helpful, one need not be a Medium to practice Spirit Rescue. For an awareness that a lost Spirit is present and an intent to help them are all that is needed.
What Causes Spirits to be Earthbound?
Although earthbound Spirits can enter the Spirit Realm at any time, confusion or ulterior motives keep them bound to the Earth Plane.
At the time of death the Soul exits and hovers above the body while experiencing a continued emotional attachment to the body, loved ones, and circumstances of the former life. Then soon after death, the newly disembodied Soul will undergo a powerful magnetic pull away from its body and the Earth Plane toward the light of the Spirit Realm.
Some Souls Unknowingly Become Stuck
However, a Soul may be so confused or distraught by their unexpected demise that they miss the magnetic pull entirely. And unfortunately the pull eventually fades and dissipates. Consequently, the Soul unknowingly becomes stuck between the Earth and Spirit Realms.
These cases are often circumstances of a sudden tragic death when the Soul doesn’t realize they’ve actually passed away. Moreover, these confused Souls may remain in the vicinity of their demise. Oftentimes, they are stuck in their former home for years wondering why strangers reside there.
Some Souls Choose to Become Stuck
Then there are other cases where a Soul purposely resists the magnetic pull to move on to the Spirit Realm for various reasons. They may fear what may lie ahead for them in the Spirit Realm. Or perhaps they are obsessed with people or earthly possessions refusing to leave them. While others may hope to re-enter the Earth Plane by attaching to a living body in order to feed their previous earthly addictions.

What are the Signs of an Earthbound Spirit?
There are many possible signs that an earthbound Spirit is present in a home or building. For occurances of strange phenomena generally are a tell. The below unexplained occurrences evidence an earthbound Spirit is present.
- Seeing a shadowy figure out the corner of your eye
- Unexplained draft of cold air
- Feeling that someone is watching
- Hearing footsteps
- Hearing doors opening or closing
- Hearing a strange voice
- Lights flickering
- Electronic glitches
- Objects moved from one place to another
- Objects mysteriously appearing where they were not earlier
Of course our deceased loved ones in the Spirit Realm can also create some of the above phenomena when trying to get our attention. But our loved ones do so when we are thinking of them and will also put out a loving energy. In contrast, earthbound Spirits put out a confused and unsettled energy.
Cautions for Encountering Earthbound Spirits
In general, encountering an earthbound Spirit, who is not a loved one, requires a bit of caution and detachment. Because these confused Spirits are still strongly focused on Earth Plane, a personal connection is always ill advised. For this only strengthens their erroneous belief in a true connection to the physical world.
Moreover, when an earthbound Spirit realizes you’re aware of their presence, the above listed phenomena will only increase to get your attention. Thus, if you’ re not engaging an unfamiliar Spirit for the purpose of crossing them over, it’s best to ignore them completely.
Notably, when crossing a Spirit over, detachment, protection, and strong personal boundaries are advised.
Protection
Protection is necessary so that no malevolent energies enter your field during the Spirit Rescue process. Generally, acting out a ritual will suffice to provide this protection.. Common protection rituals are listed below:
- Visualizing white light surrounding yourself
- Stating a protection prayer asking that only beings of light enter your field
- Calling in your own Guides and/or Archangel Michael to keep your field clear of negative entities
Detachment
It’s important to remain detached from the Spirit during the Spirit Rescue process. This will prevent them from becoming too attached to you to move on the the Spirit Realm.
Boundaries
As a Spirit Rescuer, strong boundaries are important. For lost Souls may pop up at any time while you’re going about your personal life. If so, let any intruding Spirits know you aren’t working now, but will aid them at a time when you are working.
How to Conduct a Spirit Rescue
If you should come across an earthbound Spirit, the below process will assist you in moving them into the light..
Step 1 – First, it’s important to set up protection by visualizing yourself surrounded with white light, stating a protection prayer, and calling in your own Guide or Archangel.
Step 2 – Secondly, enter a meditative state and sense where the Spirit is located. Then focus on that area. Note: It’s important not to ask the Spirit for signs they are present. For this only stirs up their lower earthly energy vibrations. Our purpose is to raise their vibration to that of the Spirit Realm.
Step 3 – While staying detached, firmly tell the Spirit it’s time for them to move on from the Earth Plane to the unconditional love and acceptance of the Spirit Realm. And repeat this statement a few times. Rather than a request, this should be more a loving command.
Should the Spirit show continued reluctance to move on, call in their personal Guide, Angel, or previously deceased loved one to assist them in crossing over. These entities, personally connected to them, will have a stronger influence than you, here.
Step 4 – When you sense the Spirit has moved on to the light, ask your Guide and Angels to clear your energy field and ground you. For extra clearing I touch a wall intending any entity’s energy attached to me leave my field, go down the wall, and ground into the Earth.
Step 5 – Then thank your own Guides and the earthbound Spirit’s Guides and deceased loved ones who helped in this process.
Final Words on Spirit Rescue – Human Intervention for Earthbound Spirits
Since stuck and wandering Spirits do indeed exist, it’s likely you will someday encounter one. While some earthbound Spirits do wish to cross over, others are stubbornly reluctant to for various reasons. Nonetheless, both types of these stuck Spirits need our help to cross over to the other side of the veil.
Moreover, it’s a noble and rewarding act to cross over an earthbound Spirit to the Spirit Realm. And when observing the above precautions, it’s generally safe to do so.
